Come this new year, with the global economic seemingly in recession, many "experts" deem as comparable with the Great Depression, we should spend a moment and wonder how this "Great Depression II" will effect us.
Will we lose our job? What will become of our families? Will this spawn new social issues like rising crime?
The last time Singapore had a recession, it did see a rise in unemployment and crime, mainly burglary and robbery. As times get harder (and times were already hard to begin with), desperation will force individuals to resort to unjust means to survive.
But despite the prospect of losing your job or have little good options to work at / for, it is also a time to be brave and to make daring leaps into your career.
Warren Buffet mentioned that you should sell during the boom and buy during the bust.
The same theology can be applied here.
Be experimental during this time to gain as much experience as you can, and when times get better, you'll have a better grasp of what you want to do on the long run, when the boom starts up again.
And most importantly, do not give in to career trends.
Unless it is something you are
so interested in.
